The Interfaces of Barcode Scanner

The Interfaces of Barcode Scanner
Jan 09, 2024

There are currently three common interfaces on the market, namely USB, serial port, and keyboard port (PS/2 interface). These different interfaces generally have different configurations and different performances. They are briefly explained below.

The USB interface is the more mainstream barcode scanner nowadays. The barcode scanner with this interface does not need a driver and can be used by just plugging it into the computer. The operation is very simple.

Under normal circumstances, the keyboard interface (PS/2) only needs to be plugged into the computer keyboard interface, and an additional external cable is provided for plugging in the keyboard cable. This ensures that the keyboard and scanner will not conflict when used at the same time, making it easier to operate. .

The interface between the serial port handheld barcode scanner and the computer is a nine-pin header. However, the serial port is more stable than USB and keyboard interfaces. In harsh working environments, serial port scanners are more popular and have a market.

Bluetooth transmission: Turn on the Bluetooth of the barcode scanner and connect it to the computer device to realize data transmission. Looking at the barcode market, it is not difficult to find that each brand series of barcode scanners has two configurations, such as serial port and USB interface, for consumers to choose from.
